Foundations For Learning

GOAL 1: Students will further their understanding of the developmental assets and integrate them into their minds and hearts.

In this component of the educational program students and their parents will be introduced to the 40 developmental assets. The emphasis will be on laying a foundation that will support the students throughout their lives. The goal will be to create an asset rich environment in the school, home and the community. The students will complete a self-report survey developed by the Search Institute to evaluate to what extent they have the 40 developmental assets. The data obtained will be translated into relevant and appropriate strategies that will be implemented in the school environment. These strategies will include activities, classes and support systems that will help to build assets. Activities such as Challenge Education and "ropes courses", as well as classes in conflict resolution and anger management, will be offered for this purpose. The data will also be communicated to parents in an effort to help them provide an asset rich environment at home, and enlist their support in helping their children to develop assets.
